The already-high stakes just got higher for the National Wrestling Alliance World Women’s Title Match on May 17 at The 2025 Crockett Cup!

Champ Kenzie Paige defends “The Burke” against WWE superstar Natalya in one of the event’s most-anticipated bouts. Now excitement reaches a new frenzy, with Gail Kim stepping in as special guest referee!

The decision to have Kim officiate was made by NWA President and CEO William Patrick Corgan, prompted by a series of altercations between champion and challenger over the last several weeks. The women have clashed across the wrestling world making their boundary-breaking championship match quite personal.

Corgan issued the following statement, detailing the decision, via the National Wrestling Alliance’s social media earlier this week.

“As the person who booked this very special match-up between the WWE’s Natalya and NWA World Women’s Champion Kenzie Paige, in a championship match no less, and given the bad blood between the two stars, which has only built since the Bloodsport event in Vegas and of course Ms. Paige’s unseemly attack at The Dungeon, I’ve come to a very important conclusion: which is that the officiating of this match must be handled in a very particular way. And though I have full confidence in our referees, I am concerned about their safety as well as ensuring that we in the National Wrestling Alliance will have a clear and just result. Therefore, I’ve named Gail Kim as the special guest referee for this contest at Crockett Cup, Saturday, May 17th in Philadelphia; for I know well Ms. Kim’s impeccable and unimpeachable integrity in the sport of professional wrestling. May the best lady win-“

The World Women’s Championship Match is only one of several key NWA title matches happening on May 17. Thom Latimer also defends “The Ten Pounds of Gold” in what will now be a triple-threat against former NWA World’s Champion Rhino and second-generation star Colby Corino.

All of this is in addition to The 2025 Crockett Cup Tournament itself. This year, 16 duos compete in the NWA’s annual tag team tradition first started in 1986.
